Information
The best and most important thing I can tell you before your family session or your child’s session is to relax. I know that is easier said than done. Your images will not only portray you and your family much more accurately, but they will actually be fun to do!
Your session will begin after I have a moment to interact with your child(ren) and help them to get to know me better. Please feel free to bring a favorite toy to help your child feel secure. Once your child is comfortable, I may ask you to step back or even be "out of sight" (but always nearby) so that your child might be less distracted. Of course, younger children may require a parent to be on hand at all times. If you have any special requests (siblings together, pets etc), please let me know prior to your session so that I may work them in.
Outdoor sessions are best held in early morning or evening when light is best. With all photo sessions: Please schedule your photo shoot around baby's naps and feeding times. Also, Sick, tired or grumpy babies are not fun to engage for pictures. Please call to reschedule.
The following is the best schedule for capturing your little ones milestones and everything that goes along with it:
Newborns (preferably 2 weeks or younger)
Newborns are my passion!! I make it no secret that they are my absolutely my favorite subject to capture. I love every single ounce of what makes a newborn so special. The baby fuzz, the flakes on their skin, the wispy hair, the tiny, tiny fingers and toes. EVERYTHING that is unique about your tiny baby.
The ideal time to photograph newborns is within the first 5-10 days of life, when they tend to sleep, bend and curl better. To ensure that we capture your baby during this magical time, please call to schedule your session 1-2 months in advance.
Newborn sessions usually take 2-3 hours. Less if they are good sleepers.
No need to bring any outfits. I have all necessary props for the session. If you decide to purchase some of your own clothing, etsy is my go to place. They have very cute, handmade bonnets, tiebacks, pants, skirts, etc that look adorable on newborns. If you do purchase anything on your own, please let me know prior to the session so I know what color backdrops/blankets to use.
please try to bring:
A bottle or two of breast milk or formula-this saves a lot of time so we can quickly feed and keep moving, burp cloths, extra diapers, your wedding and engagement rings, and don’t forget the pacifier if your newbie uses one…they can really be helpful.
Please bring your newborn with a full tummy and loosened diaper for the drive over. This will help minimize red diaper lines. Dress in loose fitting onsies. The less to take off when you get here the better. It really helps if you keep them awake as much as possible prior to the photo shoot-wear them out for me! Bathe them-lotion them-feed them-then bring them in for pictures! The house will be kept warm so they are more comfortable. Don’t worry about the accidents that WILL happen. All my props and blankets are easy to wash and it is something that I have learned to expect.
As for the parents, please dress in layers b/c the temperature will be set abound 80 degrees.
3 ½ to4 ½ months (outdoor or in home)
Please follow the guidelines listed above.
Tummy Time at it’s best! At this time, your little one should have good head control when placed on their tummy to give good eye contact with the camera instead of not so cute forehead shots. This session is not very long, as baby can do little more than lay on his or her back & stomach and look absolutely precious! Newborns and babies are best au naturale, with maybe just a cute hat, bonnet(my fav) or tutu. Handmade diaper covers are also very cute. I supply some props, but if you wish to purchase adorable handmade items, etsy is a good place to shop. If you wish, feel free to bring a few outfit changes too.
6 ½ months to 7 ½ months (outdoor or in home)
At 6 1/2 months, your child should be sitting up on their own and their cute individual personalities have really started to develop. If they are not sitting up, we will reschedule the appointment to the time when they are sitting up.
Please follow the 3 ½ months to 4 ½ clothing guidelines listed above and we can also incorporate a few outfit changes if you wish, but please avoid clothing with writing or cartoon characters.
1 year (outdoor or in home)
One year old sessions are a bit more challenging. If your child is walking-they are on the move! But with a few tricks I have developed we can get some precious shots!.
Please bring several outfits. I love a lot of options! Please avoid t-shirts, clothing with writing or cartoon characters on them, play clothes, etc...). Layers are great-even in summer. These days, I have been more into a natural/rustic/organic type look, particularly for girls. Creams, beiges, grays and whites all look good to achieve this look. Gap kids and etsy have great options. At times, I do also like color!! And LOTS of it!! For boys, I like dark wash jeans. Overalls or suspenders for boys and sundresses for girls look great, too! Hats, scarfs, belts, jackets, vests leggings, leg warmers jewerlry, ties, bows, boots, sunglasses, etc... all look great! Sometimes, it looks great combining some of these accessories. Yep, I mean pretty dresses with rainboots look!
* Naps and snacks before the shoot are essential too. Please let me know your child's naptimes, when we schedule.
Ages 1-3 (outdoor or in home)
Toddler sessions are best outdoors. Outdoor shoots are available during the months of April –October. Indoor shoots at this age are shorter then outdoor shoots, resulting in less images. Please look at the previously listed 1 year shoot for examples of outfits.
3 yrs and up (outdoor or in home)
Children sessions are also best outdoors. Outdoor shoots are available during the months of April –October. Indoor shoots at this age are shorter then outdoor shoots, resulting in less images. Children at this age are usually easy to shoot. Usually posing for the camera and saying “Cheese”
While cheesy smiles are good for silly photos, my goal is to capture your children looking naturally beautiful. My most favorite look is the serious and pensive ones. Not to worry-we will get some smiles, but I aim for the more natural and not so forced toothy smile. Please refrain from telling your child to say cheese so we can try to avoid forced smiles. Follow the clothing guidelines previously mentioned for 1 year olds
Family Sessions (Outdoor only)
For family sessions, I recommend to keep clothing selections simple. Plain, long-sleeved black shirts and jeans are a great option. White shirts are alternative to the black. Again, simplicity is most important. Wear the style you feel flatters you the most. Family sessions are only done outdoors which limits us to shooting during the months of April-October.
Engagement (Outdoor only)
Engagement sessions will be scheduled outdoors only. Your shoot will be scheduled around an hour before sundown when light is best and will include a minimum of two locations.
Seniors (Outdoor only)
Your senior session will be scheduled outdoors, during the months of April-October. Your shoot will be scheduled around an hour before sundown when light is best and will include a minimum of two locations. I recommend 2-3 outfit changes that fit your personal style. I am currently only taking senior girls.
